 Peter Devlin b.1912

Peter Devlin was born in Winlaton in 1912. He was employed as a coal miner during his young adult life. He married Margaret Welsh in December 1912, aged 28 at Stella church. Catherine already had three children, James, Joseph and Catherine Welsh.  Two years later, on 3 Sept 1914, he enlisted into the British army to fight in the First World War.

Henry Devlin b. 1886

Patrick Dodds, nephew of Harry Devlin recounts:

''Dad (Harry Dodds) had an uncle, my great uncle Harry Devlin, who lived for most of the time, I remember, in London. He was known as Monty, my eldest brother used to go and stay with him occasionally. I am sure Harry had a daughter Winnie or Winifred, who married a Channel Islander, surname Renouf. I went back in 1961 with my late sister Anne to visit her in St Helier and I remember she had a son called Ralph and a daughter whose name I don't remember.''

Francis Devlin b.1886

Frank Devlin married Mary Ann Cawley in 1914. She came from Belmullet Co. Mayo, running away to avoid marriage to an older man - ending up in living in Jesmond.

They had 5 children

Vincent  F.P. (1915)  known as Vin

Twins  - Zita Monica, k.a. Monica and Ronald Anthony Lawrence k.a. Tony in 1919 - he died in the Arctic convoys in WWII she is still alive, living in West Monkseaton.

Patricia Louise k.a. Pat, (1922)  my husband's mother

Peter (1927), still alive living in North Shields.

Frank and family 'had' to leave the Gateshead area and moved to Tynemouth before Peter was born - the story is he was a bookies' runner, had made quite a bit of money but kept it in the house and was robbed. He then worked on the quay in North Shields but I'm not sure what he did.
